As interest in the Russian regions grows, I wanted to alert you to a great source of information being provided by Kendrick White and his team at Marchmont Capital. I met Kendrick in 2006 when he spoke to the US-Russia Chamber of Commerce of New England members at the invitation of Cathy Mannick.

I was very impressed with both Kendrick’s nuanced on-the-ground understanding of the business environment in Russia and with his track record of success investing in start-up Russia companies. Kendrick is now focusing his efforts of his own company, Marchmont Capital.

Marchmont is unique amongst investment banks in that it has decided to specialize in the regions of Russia. While Moscow and St. Pete have been the primary focus of Western investors over the past 8 years, there are now many super profitable opportunities in the regional cities with populations of 1 million or more.

Marchmont is building a regional network of offices and as each office comes online it publishes a Regional Profile. In 2007, regional profiles were published for Nizhny Novgorod, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, and Rostov-on-Don (coming soon). In 2008, new cities added with include January South Urals, February Kazan, March West Siberia, April Krasnodar, May Tyumen, June Nizhny Novgorod (refresh), July East Siberia, August Sochi, September Big Urals, October Samara, November Vladivostok, December Stavropol.
