In my mind, social shopping is a sub-set of social identity. Shopping, in general, provides us with a robust database of “objects” (i.e. purchases) which can be caputured and then displayed, shared, stored, and distributed in a multitude of ways. Therefore, if we really want to build social shopping web services, we first need to understand social identity.
So, I was captivated by a series of blog entries, Reinventing the Internet, by Jason Kolb. Thanks to Alex Barnett for bringing it to my attention.
While I am not sure that I fully grasp the nuances of Jason’s positions, I am sure that there is something very important being discussed and that it will play an important part in the development of social shopping, social identity, web widgets, and web badges.
Here are the links to each of tha articles in the 5 part series:
- Reinventing the Internet: Part 1
- A Domain Name in every Pot: Part 2
- Unlocking the Potential of the URI: Part 3
- Connecting the Dots: Part 4
- Decentralized Network, Centralized Identity: Part 5
There’s a lot to digest. I, for one, will be spending part of my weekend reading and thinking about Jason’s ideas.
Here’s Jason’s response, Ring Around the URI, to a number of comments on the articles.
