That darn Flickr ID Badge is stuck in my brain.
I’ve been thinking about the opportunities surrounding the creation of online digital javascript/Flash membership or affinity badges. Hell, the number of membership cards and badges in “real life” my mind boogling.
Think: Euro stickers on cars (ACK, OBX, VT, etc) or school stickers (Boston College, Milton Academy), or bumper stickers, credit cards with your favorite team logo, ID cards for work or school. Membership cards for your health club. How about the key FOBS from CVS, Shaws, etc. Starbucks or Pete’s Coffee cards. Open up your wallet and see what cards you have. Look at the cars around you when you drive home.
Take a look at Andrew Johnson’s Baxter Highschool card above. See the bar code? That bar code opens up a lot of revenue opportunities. One idea for the future is to enable membership badges to be transported as MMS objects that would live on cell phones.
Then when a member walks into a store they can call up their membership badge on their cell phone screen and the clerk can scan the barcode to confirm that the customer is eligible for a discount, or whatever.
It’s very surprising to me that that Flickr ID badge is the ONLY one I can find on the internet currently. Why the heck isn’t every organization looking to create a bond with its customers offering this type of javascript badge?
